Partnering to Reduce Hunger and Poverty Through
“Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development”

CHFI is committed to helping to achieve the Millennium Development Goals of poverty and hunger reduction in Africa and Asia mainly through Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development that is guided by the principles of rural community mobilization and empowerment, diligence, self-help and cooperation. CHFI, thus, offers the rural poor and most underprivileged opportunities to help themselves, build self-confidence and self-reliance, and work their way out of profound deprivation and hopelessness.

CHFI’s main objective is to help reduce substantially poverty and food insecurity in Africa and Asia. Specifically, CHFI will take integrated actions in support of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) of AU/NEPAD. These actions will be rural community or village - specific and will be directed at the sustainable agriculture and rural development with emphasis on agricultural productivity, food and nutrition, small-scale agro-industry, energy, water and sanitation, education and training.

CHFI Supports CAADP
The Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) is an AU/NEPAD framework that recognizes agriculture as central for the alleviation of poverty and hunger and hence for reaching the related Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in Africa. It was launched in 2003 to drive the restoration of agricultural growth, food security and rural development in the region. CAADP is seen as the most ambitious and comprehensive agricultural reform effort ever undertaken in Africa.
